Every word of this.
THREAD: Right now it is being reported that people may have died in the Channel, including a baby and a toddler.
The Home Office will spin this so that they are removed from responsibility. You'll hear noises about traffickers and lawyers. But whose fault is it really? https://twitter.com/NEON_UK/status/1296124369794727942
I mean... that's a pretty impressive line-up right there.

I *know* that death reporting on a Tuesday is always high as weekend effects play out. But I still find 367 UK deaths reported today awful. In August we were reporting 180 a *week*. It will be over 1000 this week. Please let's not let ourselves get used to these numbers.

Have starting to listen to loads of different morning radio shows to get a better handle on what's happening across the UK/int'l. Today @bbcradioulster. Plus: get great local coverage. Minus: have to listen to Sammy Wilson spread Covid misinfo, then blame rise on the GAA.
Really shouldn't be shocked. But am shocked. Lucky the off-the-cuff banter isn't being made with sod all gun control and lots of militias.....oh
Top-quality excellent Scottish content on @openDemocracy today, from @L__Macfarlane on why SNP needs a new economic model for indy https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/oureconomy/snp-must-rethink-its-economic-model-independent-scotland/ to @GerryHassan on danger of government in Edinburgh by corporate insiders https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/opendemocracyuk/uk-increasingly-run-corporate-insiders-and-scotland-too/ Both well worth a read
This, by @L__Macfarlane, explains in the clearest possible terms why sterlingisation would be a disastrous starting point for an independent Scotland. It's increasingly obvious that the Growth Commission was a political exercise, not an economic one. https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/oureconomy/snp-must-rethink-its-economic-model-independent-scotland/
Support for Scottish independence is soaring, but the SNP's plan offers a future of less sovereignty – not more.
It’s time to think again, writes @L__Macfarlane https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/oureconomy/snp-must-rethink-its-economic-model-independent-scotland/
This article is really quite incredible - imagine if it had been Russia paying for this kind of thing?
We need to be a lot more careful in Europe about who is paying for and promoting what. https://twitter.com/JolyonMaugham/status/1321060396778835968

People are protesting across Poland after last week's court decision virtually banning abortion.
Read this important story from @nandi_naira & @ClaireProvost about how groups linked to President Trump are funding battles against LGBT & women's rights across the world. 👇 https://twitter.com/openDemocracy/status/1320999092265328642
BREAKING: The Trump-linked $280m dark money ‘empire’
Our new investigation shows powerful US Christian right groups have helped win big fights against women's and LGBT rights.

What an excellent article. I’ve been struck for some time by how hard many pearl-clutching ‘culture war’ advocates find it to name any actual members of the opposing ‘army’.
There's probably no better example of how Britain is living inside America's culture war than the oddly hollow controversy over Adele's Notting Hill costume. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2020/10/internet-world-trapped-americas-culture-war/616799/
@mrjamesob The soy sauce in my cupboard is made in Poland. Other brands are made in Holland. According to the DoT tweet these will have a tariff of 6% applied to them if we trade with the EU on WTO terms.
They have highlighted how an "Australia" style deal will drive up grocery prices.
Why am I in the middle?
Not the threesome I was hoping for, never mind! @BarristerSecret @mrjamesob @richardosman

"@MarcusRashford and I have this in common...We remember - not in our heads but in our whole bodies".
Such a moving speech, that merited more than the non answer it got. https://twitter.com/Channel4News/status/1321113700221202432
"I can still taste and smell it, the mounting panic ahead of school holidays because the income we had could not stretch to feeding two boys and a mother in that day."
Labour peer Lord Griffiths says free school meals is "probably" all he and Marcus Rashford have in common.
