I know I am contributing to the death of cinema, but I am a bit drunk and therefore quite excited about it.
Zahawi managed to dedicate an entire par of his resignation letter to slagging off the press. Unsurprising given his libel attempts to silence those we now know were telling the truth about him. Deeply deceptive little man.
I mean, to even go into any detail on that Telegraph front page is to plunge into the darkest corners of editorial mania. But it doesn't even show what it claims to show. I can't believe I'm about to write this, but frolicking would indeed be possible in that bath.
What in the name of actual loving f*** is going on at the Telegraph
Jeremy Hunt’s babbling speech exposed how hard it is to sell the fantasy of Brexit https://inews.co.uk/opinion/jeremy-hunt-speech-how-hard-sell-fantasy-brexit-2111408?ito=twitter_share_article-top
This comment is as damning a statement of a man's values as I've come across. The greatest punishment he can face is that which already applies: that he is who he is.
Tulip Sadiq asks the prime minister about the welfare of 200 unaccompanied migrant children who’ve gone missing.
Tory MP Jonathan Gullis heckles ‘well they shouldn’t have come here illegally’.
Just when you think you’ve heard it all, the Tory Party find a new low

No better monument to this era than a HS rail link from London to the north that doesn’t quite reach central London & doesn’t quite reach intended bits of the north either imho. Well done everyone.
Zahawi fired.
'There has been a serious breach of the Ministerial Code'
Going to be a very interesting few months if breaching the Ministerial Code actually becomes a sacking offence in British politics again (yes, *big* if....)
NEW: Letters between Sir Laurie Magnus CBE and the Prime Minister and between Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and the Rt Hon Nadhim Zahawi, just published.
Zahawi FIRED.

RIP Tom Verlaine. I hope I never forget the chill the first time I heard this as a teenager.

🚨 Wow. *More* Zahawi scandal
He registered web domains for an 'innovative' tax company headed by Matt Hancock's brother
Company benefited from political decisions.
Zahawi never declared any of it.

'The film never really deviates from the stagey “Irishness” it sets out, in these opening moments, as its stock in trade'
Excellent read. Feel like can now publicly admit Banshees left me very cold (possibly as a product of having seen McDonagh's Leenane trilogy back in the day)
I wrote an essay about The Banshees of Inisherin, and Martin McDonagh’s whole deal https://slate.com/culture/2023/01/martin-mcdonagh-irish-banshees-inisherin-blarney.html

Good to see UK gov't will 'review rules' in wake of @openDemocracy 's revelation that Treasury helped Putin's sanctioned warlord Progozhin to sue a British journalist in London
But still so many unanswered questions.
And, crucially, oligarchs are still suing journalists here🧵
Is Rishi Sunak's government actually willing to stop oligarchs and rich and powerful around the world from using London's libel courts to silence journalists?
Or is it all just hot air?
We might be about to find out (a wee 🧵)

Mr Anderson has never even won a pub quiz, completed a crossword, understood a pun or pinned the tail on a donkey, but sure, let's pretend he's read *even the Wikipedia* entry on the ECHR. https://twitter.com/SamCoatesSky/status/1619775948307693570
Mr Anderson also suggested that officials who are found blocking the small boats plan could be viewed as committing "treason".
Anderson said tonight his point was "we need to ditch ECHR or ignore it"

What it most incredible is that Zahawi still seems to think he did nothing wrong.
How we got here: events leading up to Nadhim Zahawi’s sacking for breaching ministerial code https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jan/29/seven-occasions-when-nadhim-zahawi-broke-the-ministerial-code?CMP=share_btn_tw
Rod Liddle, a man cautioned for assaulting his pregnant girlfriend and whose posts on a Millwall forum — he claimed he was hacked — included virulent racism and antisemitism, is writing about “hooligans”.
It remains shocking that pig ignorant, sycophantic adoration of ‘Brexit’ & Boris Johnson was enough to see half-wits & hooligans like Rees-Mogg & Dorries promoted to high office. The more reality intrudes, the more inevitable their confinement to right-wing propaganda platforms.
Jacob Rees-Mogg tells @GBNEWS that Boris Johnson has 'has all the right attributes for a party chairman. He is charismatic, he rallies the troops. He's a sort of fully loaded Conservative.'
You’re now being asked to believe that a man Boris Johnson repeatedly consulted for ‘financial advice’ was miraculously & coincidentally contacted out of the blue by an old chum & distant cousin of Johnson who had independently developed a desire to lend Johnson lots of cash. 1/2
If Rishi Sunak fell in a river, he’d need an inquiry to determine whether he got wet.
