This shows how important it is to be vigilant. We almost wiped out the spectator in the 70s but now we’re in the midst of a deadly second wave
The most popular executive action taken by Biden last week, despite a fevered transphobic social media backlash, was protecting LGBTQ rights. https://www.ipsos.com/sites/default/files/ct/news/documents/2021-01/topline-abc-news-biden-unity-012421.pdf
Not sure this assurance does avoid doubt...
And just for the avoidance of doubt, Downing St tells me they would never doctor or photoshop a picture, and - as I assumed - it is the angle that makes it look strange. But it is certainly strange
@JolyonMaugham I am so sick of these crooks
It's really odd, the Sunday/Times coverage of trans rights. For the census to collect data on gender identity has been an ask of the LGBT+ community for many years. Why lie to your readers and present it as a set back?
The latest Sunday Times trans lie is quite a whopper. The question on sex has never left the census and has been unaltered since the reign of George III. This year new questions are being added on sexuality and gender identity so it’s not a “blow to trans rights” (1/3)

This is My England, And Yours: Reclaiming Englishness
@peterjukes @Daisybelll Back in 2019 over 250 UK companies were thinking of moving to the Netherlands and other EU countries...How many have since left the UK.
The field of exit strategies appears to be:
1) Vaccinate the elderly, open up in February (“focussed protection”)
2) Vaccinate all at risk, open up after Easter, allow COVID to be endemic in the young (“endemic”)
3) maximal suppression, vaccinate all and eliminate COVID
What are our options to exit the UK pandemic?
Compared to 2020, we have new tools (vaccines) and we have new challenges (mutation)?
We also have a years worth of international experience to look at.
So what’s the best way out?

Oh, and since my fondness for strong women is for some reason in my timeline, here’s my mother - adopted, orphaned by 18, had five kids, adopted a sixth, and brought us all up with very little help from any men https://twitter.com/mdg1122/status/1353396165610504192
Loved re-reading this moving beautifully written article by @peterjukes “quintessential thing about England: it’s not an ethnicity, it’s a culture – an incredibly wide and varied culture” with “an outward-looking fascination other cultures and countries” #bylinetimes https://twitter.com/bylinetimes/status/1353365369348526081

If you a big fan of repressive, nativist, Johnsonian populism, you're not going to like anything I have to say. (A real doctor, like Jill.)
Staff are giving everything they have to protect patients right now. It's so brutal, so exhausting, our hospitals awash with suffering. Please read & please - above all - stay at home, keep safe. We have pregnant women in their 20s in ICUs. Stay home 🙏
Brexit itself was always bloody stupid.
But "fixing Brexit", the thing that most people are now talking about, is far bloody stupider.
Brexit became unfixable very shortly after it was voted for.
Get a bloody grip!
My client has lived in the UK nearly 2 decades & has end-stage renal failure. Home Office want to send him to the country he was born, where he’ll get no treatment & will die.
The Home Office are defending their decision by criticising him for “accessing the NHS extensively”.
Any deal for the financial services industry remains a distant prospect. Why does the govt refuse to safeguard a sector that accounts for 10% of our exports & contributed £132 billion to the UK's economy in 2018?
'That's the French for you, ain't it?' he mused, in his throaty West Country burr. 'They'll do anything to get at us.
'Don't blame us, Monsieur, it was you who chose to leave,' they will invariably say with a dismissive Gallic shrug.
Death by reductive cliché.
Want to know WHY John Redwood is babbling on about home-grown wood?
Simple: Brexit just made importing and exporting wood MUCH more difficult.
The Timber Trade Federation has an explanation of all the changes (+ a downloadable guide) at the link below...
Why is the fishing industry being given £24m in compensation by this government for the Brexit calamity, while people in the arts are told to go find "real" jobs, even though the arts contribute far more to the UK economy than the fishing industry does?
